The yelping is freaking me out a bit. She now anticipates pain when standing up and shakes if I try to get her up. Not sure how I am going to get her in the car for tomorrow’s visit to the vets. Trying to forget tomorrow.
Vet said they would give her a thorough check over when sedated and x-rays, not just for mets but to see if they can find out why she hurts.
She is now on paracetamol as well as metacam, antiobiotics and gabapentin. Tried tramadol again last night but ended up with a panting restless dog who still wouldn’t stand. Vet said I should encourage her to stand but it’s so terrible to ask her to do something which hurts her.
It’s an awful feeling watching our furbabies in pain. We’re crossing our paws and fingers for you that this gets sorted soon and that Abi can get back on track with her recovery!
Crossing my fingers for you as well.. I hope that they can figure out what is causing her pain. It’s weird how some dogs, and felines, can just fly through recovery with absolutely no problems. And yet others, have some set backs, fevers, etc. that makes up just want to wave our magic wand and help them heal. Just goes to show that no two cases are really alike.
I hope Abi gets some relief.. and you get some answers soon!!
Gosh, just try and old on til tomorrow—–easier said than done—-and know that Abi having a good check over should uncover what’s going on and put forth a solution
Please post us as soon as you can tomorrow as we are all looking forward to what the solution is.
And yes, forget about tomorrow—-again–easier said than done—and focus on the now (at least when she’s laying down and of trying to stand:-) 🙂 ).
I know I can’t say anything to take the worry away but know we are all here for you.
It could, in part, be like you said—she’s associating getting up with pain and so has some “anticipatory reaction”
Again, post as soon as you can tomorrow—–still sounds like some sort of “pinched, pulled” something.

Trying to reply and got “waiting for moderation” so I’m sending this to see if it goes through before I go to “tech suuport”
Poor baby! It would be so much easier if they could just tell us what hurts. Give her a big hug from all of us!
Many thanks to all for your kind words. Just after I posted Abi peed on her bed. She never pees indoors but she obviously couldn’t take standing up.
Last night was peaceful- she behaves when lying down like the healthy Abi- just wanting endless tummy rubs. She had a lot last night.
I’m going to have a bath and then get her ready to go to the vets- will put car as close to back door as possible and some how or other get her in the car.
Also got to quickly walk the other dog (another greyhound).
I just hope her not standing can be sorted.
But thank you, it does help having someone to talk to.
And sorry if its taken a while to reply. Partly time difference (I’m in the UK) and partly my clumsiness with the internet.
