OK, husband came back today after a couple of weeks away. That perked up Abi no end. She was making funny little noises of appreciation. She ran from him to me and back again, obviously delighted.
Last night she slept really well. Pleased about that. There had been some panting the night before.
She has now figured out that I put tablets in her cocktail sausages and she slowly chews the sausage (carefully, so as not to break the capsule) and then spits out the tablet. Luckily after today there’s no more to take (she was finishing off the last of the antibiotics)
Also bought her a Fry Bentos pie as a treat (Jack the other dog had one too). I’ve never seen her seem so hungry.
Apart from today’s pie I have started giving her some of her normal dog food mixed with the posh. The posh consisted of a selection of the higher priced pet foods that come in foil trays – Wainwrights, Nature Harvest and also some tins of Denes. She decides one day she likes one and the next day wants a different one.
She is drinking fine.
I think the effects of the chemo have about worn off. Until next time. She still goes for very short walks but we are making them slightly longer.
All in all, fingers crossed still, things ok.
That’s a great update! Glad to hear she is eating and is obviously happy all her pawrents are home. Keep it up Abi!!
Sooooo glad your Sunshine Girl Abi is starting to get her sparkle back:-) 🙂 I know it seems like forever but the improvement is there every single day!!
I love how she handles taking er pills:-) 🙂 Aren’t they amazing when it comes to figuring out how to get that pill unwrapped from their food and spit it out–while keeping the goodies!!:-) 🙂
So no ore yelping either?? That’s wonderful!!
The onco. may lower the next chemo dose just a touch if she thinks it zapped her out too much.
Our hearts are all smiling while reading all the good news!! Some of her food preferences are…..very….interesting:-) 🙂
More photos PLEASE—PLEASE:-) 🙂 Love those photos of her!”
Sally and Happy Hannah
Sally and Happy Hannah, yes she is improving.
Both my husband and I are vegan so meat treats for dogs tend to be stuff which is ready prepared. The pies are given occassionally for birthdays, etc. She and Jack love them.
Cocktail sausages used to be perfect for hiding capsule pills in. Alas no more!
Thank you again for your, and fourminipups’ support.
Hi, I’ve been catching up on Abi’s story. I’m sorry to hear she has been off her food. If you haven’t already got her on anti-nausea pills you might want to talk to your vet about it. I’ve heard on this site of dogs getting an anti nausea injection at the same time as the chemo to help with nausea as well.
Magnum was a shocker for picking out her medication as well. I have heard of some gadget you can get to pop the pill right down their throat. I haven’t seen or used it but if I had known about it I would have given it a go. It was so stressful trying to trick Magnum and knowing that she no longer trusted anything I gave her.
I hope Abi continues to have many more happy days.
