Bit of a downer

Abi was doing so well. Playing, running, etc. Then last night she couldn’t sleep. Every time she lay down she would whimper and then stand up again. She’s bed hopping. She did a get a couple of hours sleep but not much more. Fine standing up and hopping around, eating and drinking ok. Phoned the vet this morning. I am taking her there in first thing Monday morning. Meanwhile she’s back on metacam and also paracetemol.

Thinking if she doesn’t settle in a couple of ours will give her gabapentin too.

And its her birthday today- we were going to celebrate with a walk around the field but we better not now.

  1. Awww, first of all HOPPY BIRTHDAY ABI!

Now, I’m not a vet but it sounds to me like this might just be a matter of too much activity, too soon. I know it’s hard to contain your enthusiasm after feeling bad for so long, but you can do it! Take shorter walks (no more than 20 min for a completely recovered, strong dog is the general rule), play inside more and take things little by little. Do your core-strengthening exercises (see our Gear blog), eat right and slowly you will gain your strength and be able to do the things you love once again.

Let us know what the vet says OK? We are thinking of you and sending lots of birthday wishes your way!

  2. I know it’s so hard to see Abi uncomfortable and she can’t tell you what hurts!! She is a big girl and she could, indeed, be overdoing it.

She’s eating and popping and that’s always good! The fact that it doesn’t bother her walking does sound like some sort of pulled muscle or pinched nerve………the “for whatever it’s worth” column:-) 🙂

Get plenty of rest Abi….it’s your birthday and you will use a lotof energy cchewing up you steak:-) 🙂 🙂 Ice cream and cake will be much easier gulping down though:-) 🙂 🙂

    How young are you today?

We’re all mighty glad you were born!! You make us s ile:-) 🙂 🙂

    Lots of love,

  3. Happy birthday dear Abi! Take it a bit easier for your birthday and see if you don’t feel better. Make the humans work for you! Too much activity can really wear you out and make you act punky. I’ll bet you’ll feel much better after a birthday spent relaxing and giving orders!

  4. Abi is 9 today. She has had meat pie and lots of stroking. The stroking seems to be the best pain killer of all.
Thank you for all your wishes.

  5. Happy Birthday, Abi! I hope she is feeling better really soon! Hopefully she’s just a little sore after too much celebrating.

  6. Happy Birthday Abi. Hope you ahd a great day. I agree too much activity too soon can cause problems
